The role of the SMC complex in chromosome folding in the obligate oral symbiont Conchiformibius kuhniae
This project investigates how the SMC complex and other chromatin proteins influence chromosome folding in Conchiformibius kuhniae, a genetically tractable multicellular oral symbiont. By combining genetic manipulation, ChIP-seq, and 3C-seq, the study aims to uncover how DNA organization supports host adaptation and microbial niche specialization. The findings will advance our understanding of bacterial chromosome biology and aid future work on related symbionts and pathogens.
