Characterization of DsrD and its interaction with the DsrAB dissimilatory sulfite reductase
Microbial dissimilatory sulfate reduction involves the reduction of sulfate to sulfite and further to a DsrC-trisulfide by DsrAB, with DsrD acting as an allosteric activator, enhancing sulfite reduction. This study revealed three DsrD groups in organisms with reductive-type DsrAB. In vitro and in silico analyses identified the conserved β-loop of DsrD as essential for its interaction with DsrAB and its activity-promoting effect, further elucidating its mechanism of action.
