The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) Seal of Excellence is awarded to outstanding researchers, whose proposals submitted to MSCA score 85% or above but could not be funded due to a lack of budget. The award underscores the high quality and value of these projects and aims to let alternative funding bodies make use of the European Commissions rigorous Horizon H2020 evaluation process.
Alexandre Bagnoud (of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) and Christa Schleper received the award for their proposal "Ecology and Activity of Bathyarchaeota in wetland soils".
