Christa Schleper, her team and a group of students went on an exhausting, unforgettable sampling trip for the practical course PP 300027 "Extremophilic and thiotrophic Microorganisms from Volcanic Environments".
A personal guide took them to otherwise inaccessible sites to take samples on Stromboli, Etna and Vulcano, where the God of Fire, Hephaestus, is said to have his workshop.
