28.07.2020

Join in for our second talk in our VBC Climate Lecture Series!

On Tuesday 28th July, 4 pm, we have our second talk in our VBC Climate Lecture Series.

The talk will be hosted on Zoom and be very interactive, with 30 minutes presentation followed by 30 minutes Q&A.

We will have two great speakers talking about how to set up a green office at your institute and how you can deal with plastics in a lab environment:

Logan Hodgskiss (University of Vienna/Green Labs Austria)

"Tackling the plastic problem in the lab; where to start?"

Logan is a Ph.D. student in the Archaea Biology and Ecogenomics Group at the University of Vienna studying microorganisms involved in the nitrogen cycle. Logan is involved with a group of six other lab members at the University of Vienna who started Green Labs Austria to reduce the impact of lab research, especially in regards to plastic, and to build awareness and a community to tackle the challenges ahead. Green Labs Austria is passionate about contributing to transforming lab work and the world following the terms of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.

Riet van de Velde (Sustainibility Office, UGent, Belgium):

"Towards a more sustainable university – step by step"

Riet has been environmental and sustainability coordinator of the university of Ghent, Belgium for more then 10 years. Establishing a Green Office and working in close collaboration with staff and students she managed to set up a clear roadmap to CO2-neutrality, increase bicycle usage by 25% in 10 years and use every free space to increase biodiversity. Ghent University even has three wind turbines placed on their campus and are planning to build more on the road to CO2-neutrality
