Post doc position in Sousa group

22.11.2018

Thank you very much for your applications. The position is filled.

The Genome Evolution and Ecology group from the division of Archaea Biology and Ecogenomics offers one postdoctoral position in computational biology in the project “Evolution of Physiology: The link between Earth and Life” funded by a recently awarded ERC starting grant to Filipa L. Sousa.

It will involve extensive comparative genomic and phylogenetic analyses in close context to biological and geological data. This will further contribute to the elucidation of evolution of microbial physiology and diversity.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow from whom we expect a high degree of independence and ability to supervise PhD. students and interns. Applicants should have a keen interest in fundamental microbial evolution and a strong research background in biology, microbial physiology and genomic analysis. The Postdoctoral position will involve the analyses of large metagenomic and genomic datasets combined with different types of data to reconstruct and analyze the evolution of large protein families recurrently used in different bioenergetics solutions.

Essential skills:

•    PhD degree in Biochemistry/Microbiology / Biological Sciences/ Computational Sciences
•    Comprehensive understanding of microbial physiology
•    Experience in comparative and phylogenetic analysis
•    Excellent knowledge of at least one scripting language (Perl or Python)
•    Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative research team.

Conditions of Appointment:

We offer up to 3 years of appointment according to the salary scheme of the University of Vienna. The University of Vienna is an equal opportunity employer.

How to Apply:

Applicants should submit a single pdf combining a letter of motivation, a detailed CV (including previous employments, a brief description of research interests, and publication list), and contact details for at least 2 referees. This document should be submitted by email to Filipa L. Sousa.
