"Climate Change and Intergenerational Justice"

Thursday 26.01.2023

4.45- 6.15 pm

Lecture Hall C1, Uni Campus

What will our future look like if we don't act now?

The issue of intergenerational justice revolves around this question, which, at the latest since the emergence of Fridays for Future, has also led children and young people around the world to demand effective action.

From a legal point of view, this term plays an increasingly important role in the fight  against climate change in the context of so-called "climate lawsuits". What is being demanded here is a fair distribution of burdens between the generations.

Nevertheless, the term "intergenerational justice" and its connection to children's rights is still little illuminated in Austria.

Therefore, it will be discussed what is meant by intergenerational justice - especially from a children's rights perspective - where this argument has already been applied in legal proceedings and how this argumentation could perhaps also be made usable in Austria.
