"Unifying the global phylogeny and environmental distribution of ammonia-oxidising archaea based on amoA genes"

Ricardo Alves, Christa Schleper and Tim Urich (Univ. Greifswald, former Archaea Biology and Ecogenomics), in collaboration with Bui Q. Minh and Arndt von Haeseler (Max F. Perutz Laboratories, Univ. Vienna, Medical Univ. Vienna), just published a study of the global phylogeny, diversity and environmental distribution of ammonia-oxidising archaea (AOA) that synthesises knowledge about these organisms obtained over the last 10 years. The study reveals novel diversity, environmental and molecular patterns of AOA, and provides an essential framework for futures studies in the field.
